Why is it critical to surround yourself with breastfeeding supporters?
The #1 barrier to breastfeeding is lack of support. According to the United States Surgeon General, most women in the U.S. are aware that breastfeeding is the best source of nutrition for infants, but they seem to lack knowledge about its specific benefits and are unable to cite the risks associated with not breastfeeding.
This is SO devastating.
Whether you’re the first of your friends to have a baby or you don’t feel comfortable talking about your personal experience – breastfeeding can feel lonely. Please try to remember, you are not alone.
An important thing to remember is that breastfeeding becomes easier over time. The first few weeks are the toughest, but please trust that it settles down. Don’t give up!
There are many breastfeeding supportive moms who have created online communities that are easily accessible. Here are a few encouraging Instagram accounts:
- @tigerlilyharvest
- @thebreastmilkqueen
- @holisticlactation
- @karrie_locher
- @motherhoodinformed
- @the_instinctualmother
Remember to surround yourself with positivity and good people who are going to help make you the best version of yourself.
We hope you feel supported and always remember: you are tough as a mother.
